bielomatik, Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of a German manufacturer of precision plastic welding and finishing machinery used to produce complex plastic components, seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer for its New Hudson, Michigan operations to design and develop infrared and quasi-simultaneous laser welding machines, ensuring international consistency with production of welding machines produced by our parent company in Germany.
Duties: design quasi-simultaneous laser and infrared (QSLI) welding machines and implement technology into customer production processes; analyze customer CAD data, product, part design, and material composition to develop QSLI welding process for plastic materials; determine QSLI welding feasibility and technological capability; produce engineering drawings based on German DIN standards; use Siemens NX9 to design complex machine assemblies utilizing parametric modeling; participate in technical design reviews and project meetings with customer.
Minimum education required: Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum experience required: 1 year experience in a design engineering position. Required skills: Must have 1 year experience with each of the following: developing QSLI plastic welding technologies and manufacturing processes for complex machine assemblies; evaluation of plastic welding feasibility based on material and design criteria; troubleshooting laser and infrared welding tool design and processes, and conduct tests on QSLI welding machines to determine practical manufacturing limitations; planning and executing complete engineering design projects for QSLI welding machinery, from initial design concept and prototype through production release and post-production support; evaluation of welding technologies based on North American and European health, safety, and environmental requirements; design and development of vibration welding applications for incorporation within existing OEM processes. Experience may be acquired concurrently.
