The City of Buckeye is seeking a Surveyor that is experienced with multiple disciplines and capable of thriving in a fluid environment.

Exhibits a service orientation toward customers and maintains productive working relationships.
Interprets, applies and enforces the provisions of the City’s Engineering Design Standards and Policies and other applicable federal, state and local codes, laws, rules, regulations, specifications, standards and procedures.
Responds to request for information or clarification regarding City policies, procedures or requirements.
Provides technical support to the Development Services Center permit counter regarding engineering related topics and issues.
Coordinates projects with staff, developers, consultants and outside agencies by attending meetings, explaining City’s position to developers, evaluating other party’s needs and preparing written or verbal presentations.
Provides technical information, assistance, and expertise to staff, City Council, other City departments, engineers, developers, and others.
Provides assistance to construction inspectors in the interpretation of plans and resolutions of problems during construction as required.
Research and maintain pertinent data and production of improvement projects; report contractor’s progress, initiate and update files for agreements, funds, and payments.
Reviews engineering calculations and design of other engineers or engineering technicians.
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, activity reports/ design/construction contracts, technical memos, or other documents.
Works with other City departments to resolve problems related to mapping and surveying.
Performs other related duties as required.
Focused Job Duties, (Survey):
Reviews a variety of plans, including legal descriptions, ALTA Surveys, Easements, Annexations, Address Maps and other property related documents.
Participates in the review and processing of documents for development projects relating to survey or other documents relating to land survey.
Participates in the review and processing of Capital Improvement Projects for compliance with City requirements for approval.Perform analysis of boundaries & title documents in the preparation of plats, ALTA's and design based maps, boundary and topographic surveys, and legal descriptions and exhibits, and reviews these products prior to sealing for the City.
Reviews all Plats, ALTA's, boundary and topographic surveys, legal descriptions and exhibits for developments. Maintains survey and mapping policies and standards for the City.
Reviews all CAD submittals for compliance with City of Buckeye and County standards.
Develops a comprehensive CAD file for integration with the City’s Geographic Information System. Specific emphasis on creating CAD parcels of new developments for streamlining integration with GIS for the City’s numerous software programs and online mapping that utilize GIS data. Conducts field/site visits as needed; inspects sites to identify potential construction/design difficulties due to existing items not reflected on construction plans.
May approve or deny plans as appropriate; may sign off on approved plans; obtains signatures for approved plans and legal documents.
Necessary Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
Modern survey principles, methods, techniques, and instruments related to land survey, construction surveys, and public works projects.
Principles, practices, rules, and regulations governing land surveying.
Land surveying and mapping.
Project management procedures, objectives, principles and methods.
Focused Knowledge, (Survey):
Thorough understanding of the analysis of title documents and boundary surveys.
Engineering plan review procedures.
Urban development including aspects of subdivision and site development.
Civil and structural engineering principles relating to design and construction.
Extensive background and use of MAG standards.
Skill and Ability to:
Analyzing and interpreting applicable ordinances, rules, laws, codes, regulations, technical reports and manuals, construction plans and specifications, correspondence and legal documents.
Understanding the laws that govern surveying.
Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
Performing engineering calculations such as advanced level algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus.
Preparing complex, comprehensive, and accurate technical reports and correspondence.
Communicate effectively with City staff, developers, consultants and the general public.
Present ideas concisely and effectively, orally and in writing.
Work independently and as a team member, maintaining composure, and working effectively in a high-pressure environment with changing priorities.
Conduct research and analyze and evaluate many complex and significant engineering and survey issues.
Keep accurate records of survey data.
Establish and maintain effective working relationship with City leaders, developers, consultants and the public.
Training and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field. Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to qualify. Five (5) years of professional experience is required.
Licenses and Certificates:
Must be registered in the State of Arizona as a Land Surveyor within one year of hire.
Possession of a valid Arizona driver's license.
Certified Federal Surveyor preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office setting and outdoors in inclement weather at public facilities.
Requires vision (which may be corrected) to read small print.
Required to attend periodic evening meetings and/or to travel within and out of City boundaries to attend meetings.
