The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Principal Transportation Engineer/Planner under the direction of the Transportation and Traffic Manager, assists with planning, organizing and coordinating the activities of the Division of Transportation and Traffic within the Public Works Department. The position will perform professional traffic engineering and transportation work by planning, designing, and project management. The position will have a focus on developing and reviewing land development projects, traffic impact studies, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) while working with traffic engineering consultants; and will assist with the coordination of Division of Transportation and Traffic activities with other divisions and departments; and provides assistance with highly complex traffic engineering work. We therefore, looking for a candidate with strong analytical, technical and problem solving skills, who can prioritize and deliver results in a constantly changing environment, and has the proven ability to establish effective working relationships with customers, co-workers and vendors.

Education and Experience:
The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:
The Principal Transportation Engineer requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, planning, public administration or a related field; AND
Four years of responsible transportation planning, transportation engineering or planning management experience, including two years of supervisory experience.
Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license or the ability to provide alternative transportation as approved by the appointing authority and a safe driving record.
Principal Transportation Engineer
• Possession of Registration as a Professional Civil or Traffic Engineer issued by the State of California.
Principal Transportation Planner
• AICP Certification issued by the American Planning Association OR • Professional Transportation Planner certification issued by the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
