The National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) has an opening for a Research Engineer to work in area of Rotorcraft Concept Design. This position will work with a team of Army personnel on site at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC), located in Hampton, Virginia. The team objective is to conduct design studies in support of technology development and requirements formulation for state-of-the-art vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aviation systems. Additionally, the team researches new analytical methods and tools to increase capability, productivity and certainty of the conceptual design process. The team routinely performs multidisciplinary design and optimization, utilizing high fidelity analyses, uncertainty quantification, and collaborating with domain subject matter experts, to provide aviation system cost and performance information to senior leadership and decision makers in support of new aircraft development programs.
The qualified candidate will perform exploratory research developing and refining new aircraft concepts and designs. US Citizenship and the ability to obtain SECRET security clearance is a bona fide requirement.
MS or PhD degree in Aerospace engineering or other applicable discipline.
Previous work in rotorcraft research.
Previous experience with CAD.
Knowledge of conceptual design methods and processes.
Knowledge of NASA Design and Analysis of RotorCraft (NDARC) software.
