Beloit, WI (pop. 37,000) The City of Beloit is seeking innovative leaders as candidates for its next Director of Public Works. Beloit is located near the Wisconsin/Illinois State line in south central Wisconsin. Beloit is a thriving, full service community, home to the internationally known, highly regarded Beloit College. The city also has a 400 acre city owned industrial/office park, as well as an exciting arts community that boasts a two week international film festival, a philharmonic, an arts incubator and a civic theater that plays to sold out audiences. The Public Works Department is a full service department that is integral to the City’s success and is comprised of 120 full time employees spread out over 5 divisions: Operations, Water Resources, Engineering, Mass Transit and Parks. The department’s annual budget is $6.2 million with an average annual CIP budget of $10 million. The next Director can expect to work on the following:
The City is proud of its public spaces comprised of 43 parks including an expansive riverfront park, a city owned golf course, a kayak boat launch and two cemeteries. The next Director will be expected to continue and where possible enhance the high level of maintenance for these public spaces.
Candidates will be expected to have strong analytical and program evaluation skills with the ability to review operations and where appropriate lead change that will lead to greater efficiency and effectiveness in operations.
The next Director of Public Works must have high integrity and a demonstrated track record in effective customer service, team building within the department and with other departments, and experience and understanding of core public works operations.
Candidates must have a bachelor's degreein civil engineering, public administration or a closely related field. Ideally, candidates will have 10 years increasingly responsible experience in executive level public works in the public sector or in a field closely related to the public sector.
