The Opportunity: The Washington State Department of Transportation is very excited to present great opportunities for two Design Team Leads/Project Managers with strong leadership skills and exceptional aptitude for managing projects. The managers will be responsible for delivering multiple highway projects, mentoring staff and developing their direct reports to become future leaders of the Washington State Department of Transportation.
We are looking for leaders that are able to be decisive and collaborative. Ideally, someone with Professional Engineering license or the ability to obtain Professional Engineering license in the near future. Experience with leading a team and managing projects are highly desirable.
These positions would be based out of the Northwest Region in our Shoreline office. The Northwest region is the largest, most populated region within the Washington State Department of Transportation. The region consists of five counties; King, Snohomish, Whatcom, Skagit, and Island county. We will need these people to periodically travel throughout the Northwest region.

This position will perform the following work:
Lead project teams in the delivery of highway improvement and preservation projects
Ensure deliverables meet current standards and guidelines
Budget, plan, schedule, and monitor work on projects
Identify, communicate, and track project risks
Represent the project office and WSDOT at public meetings and open houses for assigned projects
Produce and review technical documents and reports
Conduct field reviews, which involves walking along highways and traversing uneven terrain to collect data.
Coordinate with in-house support groups and partner with external customers
Provide training, coaching, and performance evaluations for design team
The Ideal candidate for this position will have:
Required: Valid driver's license
Three years as a Transportation Engineer 2 or equivalent
BS Degree in Engineering
Professional Engineering License or EIT (Engineer-in-Training) Certification
Proficient knowledge and skillful application of project management practices
Three years of increasing responsibilities in performing roadway design work
Ability to supervise and coach subordinate staff to maximize performance in their current roles and to prep
Ability to maintain respectful relationships with customers and stakeholders
Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
