The LRT project in the City of Edmonton is one that is continuously evolving and when completed will be life changing for Edmonton’s citizens.

This role will lead the design, construction and project management of some of the highest profile projects and initiatives that the City of Edmonton has ever undertaken. Implementing project management principles, you will ensure that LRT projects are carried out within set timelines and budgets and to the highest standards, and meet City Council’s and the public’s expectations of an effective urban-style LRT system.
Develop a complete understanding of the projects: Meet with the General Supervisor and project team, external consultants, and other key individuals/ departments associated with the project to determine the status of the project and where this position fits within the overall scope of the project
Project manage LRT and related design and construction projects ($1 million to $1 billion): Administer consultant contracts, direct design preparation and field reviews, coordinate utilities/other civic departments, monitor and control the project schedule and budget, initiate land acquisitions and manage multi disciplined engineer consultants
Review LRT designs submitted by consultants: Assess design components for adequacy, recommend alternative approaches and ensure that technical and contract requirements do not compromise scheduled opening dates
Participate in contract procurement using a variety of methods ranging from traditional to P3
Lead on-going project reviews: Meet with the project team to discuss project progress, obstacles and solutions. Identify any problems encountered and recommend solutions that lead to world class project outcomes. Meet project milestone deadlines on or before scheduled completion dates
Manage LRT construction projects: Spearhead construction related project management services for the LRT and associated utilities, road works and ancillary facilities
Inform and influence internal/ external stakeholders: Lead public forums, provide informative presentations at public meetings /open houses as well as giving interviews to the media
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, combined with a P.Eng designation
7 years of full cycle experience, combination of engineering and project management experience
Comprehensive understanding of planning , design and construction processes related to transportation infrastructure, specifically LRT
Strong program/project management skills including an understanding of project management methods and techniques (PMBOK best practices)
Experience with Rail (CN), Transit, Heavy Rail, Bridges, Interchanges, Roads, Urban Transportation Engineering
Experience managing and working with external consultants
Demonstrated experience leading Project Managers and multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of projects
Ability to develop high-level work plans, project estimates, schedules and risk registers.
Familiarization with relevant design guidelines and principles
Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills with experience in solving complex and sensitive issues
Strong contract management skills including selection process, claims management and performance evaluation
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presenting
Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with consultants, contractors, internal and external stakeholders
Valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent). Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use on City business
Coursework/training in project management; financial management; or other leadership training
Experience managing complex multi-million dollar projects
Working knowledge of the City's procurement process, as well as the City's LRT design guidelines
