We are seeking Aeronautical Engineers to develop physics-based, high-fidelity models of aerospace systems — rockets, spacecraft, aircraft, etc. — and implement these models and algorithms in flexible, fast-running, large-scale simulations.
The successful applicant will join a department that develops large-scale system simulations and algorithms for advanced aerospace concepts. The department is located in a center at Sandia that builds and flight-tests advanced aerospace concepts to address national defense needs. In addition to developing simulation tools, the department performs wide-ranging analyses of aerospace systems for internal and external customers. Supercomputers are available at Sandia for simulating systems of almost any size and complexity. As simulation experts for systems built and flown by Sandia, the department also creates flexible, custom tools to create algorithm “laboratories”, where state-of-the-art aerospace algorithms are developed and tested.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Develop advanced algorithms for future advanced flight systems.
Perform analysis of advanced flight systems.
Create / design new advanced flight system concepts.
The Integrated Military Systems Development Center (IMSDC) at Sandia National Laboratories develops and demonstrates game-changing systems and technologies to solve warfighters' most challenging, urgent, and high-risk problems defending the nation and defeating threats to national security. The Missile Defense and Strike Systems Lines of Business, within the IMSDC, strive to demonstrate advanced technologies and deliver responsive technical solutions in anticipation of our National Security mission needs. Department 5418 Aerospace Mechanical Systems supports the missions of the IMSDC with innovative concept development and revolutionary technology demonstrations supporting Sandia's contributions to both the Missile Defense and Strike Systems Programs for our Nation and allies. This includes engagement through advanced technology development to support innovative flight systems, interceptor concepts, integrated target system development, space mission integration, and mod/sim in support of architecture and mission analysis. This is performed through active interfacing with multiple Sandia organizations and external agencies to include the Missile Defense Agency, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and partnering with the Army, Navy, Air Force and other DoD agencies.
