The Department of Agricultural Sciences (AS), within the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Life Sciences (CAFLS) at Clemson University, is seeking to fill a 9-month faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Materials Handling and Processing as part of the Agricultural Mechanization & Business Program. The Agricultural Mechanization & Business Program at Clemson University is a growing program with a broad array of faculty and students. The Program currently has seven tenure-track faculty, one lecturer, and approximately 175 undergraduate students.
Teaching and research tenure track position with a focus in agricultural and forestry material harvesting, handling, storage and preprocessing. Crops geared to produce biological products often require specialized mechanisms to harvest, preprocess, co-extract and preserve the bioactive components either in the field or in the immediate post-harvest setting. The successful candidate will specialize in mechanical design, equipment, methodology for drying and refrigeration, grinding/shredding, mixing/blending, conveying and transport systems, and storage mechanism including bins, silos and elevators, and on-site processing of feed stocks. Individual must have the capability to look at this issue from a systems engineering approach, including cost and system efficiency, and advanced control and monitoring system. The successful candidate will work closely with the Clemson University Research and Education Centers, Forestry and Natural Resources Department and other appropriate programs.
The successful candidate will teach mechanical/biomechanical design, and power & machinery related courses in Agricultural Mechanization & Business curriculum. Other responsibilities include student advising as well as serving on department/college/university academic committees and professional committees. The successful candidate is expected to develop and lead a nationally recognized research program, obtain funding via external grants and contracts, and develop intellectual properties with strong publication record including peer reviewed journals.

Ph.D. Degree in Agricultural Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Biomechanical Engineering or allied engineering field, with specialization in power & machinery, biomass production, harvesting, handling, storage and preparation for use. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in agricultural production or machinery, evidence of research productivity, effective classroom instruction, excellent speaking and writing skills, and potential to secure external funding to support an active research program.
