The Assistant Administrator (Executive Director) provides Agency leadership and direction in developing and advancing U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and FHWA programs and innovations to improve the condition of the Nation’s highway and bridge infrastructure, reduce highway fatalities, and enhance mobility while protecting the environment.
The incumbent participates with the FHWA Administrator and Deputy Administrator in planning and establishing Agency program policies, strategic initiatives and objectives, and directs the development of FHWA’s Strategic Implementation Plan to accomplish national surface transportation priorities established by the Secretary of USDOT. In addition, the incumbent oversees the day-to-day operations and management of the $44 billion Federal-aid highway program and the $1 billion Federal Lands Highway Program and assures that national program activities are carried out in accordance with the policies and objectives of the FHWA Administrator and with established legislative and program requirements.
