PURPOSE: Provide the Port of Seattle with leadership on the use of AutoCAD, Civil3D, Revit and BIM, confirming all internal and external Port users’ drawings are in compliance with the Port of Seattle CAD Standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Manage the Design Engineering Drafting Department. Manage, coach, mentor and conduct annual performance reviews for a total of 6 CAD technicians: Four (4) Engineering Design Technicians and two (2) Sr. Engineering Design Technicians. Schedule CAD time, manage budgets, manage electronic files and distribute work. Ensure that the Design Engineering Drafting Department is in 100% compliance with the Port of Seattle CAD Standards. Supervise and oversee the process of providing engineering design teams with assistance in Mechanical/Electrical/Civil/Structural design activities including field inspections, site visits, research, plan layouts, data entry and detailing. This position will provide occasional backup production drafting. Provide Port CAD Standards training to users such as consultants and Port employees.
Supervise the incorporation of survey data into site base maps, as well as the coordination, evaluation, and incorporation of drawing information from outside consultants, ensuring compliance with Port of Seattle CAD Standards. Develop CAD system library, GIS design data and data files. Manage archive document process. Resolve software and design issues.
Provide ongoing maintenance of Port’s CAD symbol drawings and standards. Maintain and edit the Port CAD Standards to include CAD Standard Details and the CAD Library. Participate as an active member in professional and technical committees.
Manage the Design Engineering Drafting Department to ensure the efficient use of CAD drafting resources, design resources and that the various drafting software (AutoCAD, Civil3D, Revit and BIM) are performing at an optimum efficiency. Liaison with managers and design engineers for aviation, marine construction and economic development projects.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of reading engineering plans, understanding mechanical, electrical, civil and structural engineering design. Knowledge of standard drafting practices. Knowledge of engineering principles and practices applicable to aviation, marine construction and property management. Ability to gain a working knowledge of Port CAD standards and procedures. Knowledge of or ability to gain a working knowledge of City of Seattle and Washington State CAD Standards. Ability to gain a working knowledge of Port project grid system. Knowledge of document control and retrieval process, and archiving CAD project drawings. Knowledge of document control systems such as LiveLink & SharePoint. Knowledge of developing and implementing a CAD quality control system. Working knowledge of GIS analysis, data requirements, composition and production of design drawings and other spatial data displays.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must possess time management, organizational, and public relations skills. Skills in preparing and conducting meetings effectively. Skills in creating graphic presentation materials for project meetings and public forums. Possess leadership skills and experience reviewing the work of others. Skills in managing design technicians working on large engineering CAD projects. Skills in prioritizing and delegating assigned work. Advanced printing and document delivery skills, especially large format, PDF docs, and CAD files. Skills in anticipating and visualizing future CAD problems on large projects. Skills in creating and maintaining engineering plans throughout the life of a project. Skilled in diagnose and configuration engineering software problems and bugs. Proficient use, technical analysis, drafting and design software skills in various computer applications such as MS Office Suite, Acrobat, SharePoint, AutoCAD, Civil3D, Revit and BIM. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in latest AutoCAD release and its lower versions. Experience with databases and spreadsheet programs.
Ability to direct others to relevant information regarding project design and development. Ability to respond quickly to project critical requests. Ability to utilize critical thinking, judgment and experience to define, analyze and resolve CAD problems and issues. Ability to lead, supervise and motivate a team.
QUALIFICATIONS: Combination of education and experience demonstrative knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to:
High school diploma or equivalent;
Twelve (12 ) years of CAD experience in Architectural, Civil, Structural and MEP (Mechanical Electrical Plumbing) drawing production; and
Six (6) years of experience supervising or managing a team.
Associates degree or completion of technical trade school course, or equivalent experience;
Fifteen (15) years of CAD experience in Architectural, Civil, Structural and MEP (Mechanical Electrical Plumbing) drawing production;
Seven (7) years of experience supervising or managing a team;
Experience and knowledge in transportation, airports, seaports and terminals;
CAD Manager or Lead CAD Technician experience;
Experience working at ports with ongoing construction projects.
