Position Purpose/Summary The purpose of this position is to be responsible for design, development, implementation, analysis of the design and project management of engineering systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform engineering design evaluations and lead project engineering design, specific to Plumbing engineering. Recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality. Responsible for all aspects of engineering design, specific to the discipline of HVAC, Electrical, or Plumbing engineering, within designated projects. Prepares engineering analysis of projects, to include: preliminary design, budget analysis, calculations, life cycle costs, and equipment selection. Conducts surveys to gather field data. Prepares drawings, layouts, and other visual aids. Prepares technical construction specifications. Reviews the development of designs for compliance with applicable codes, adopted engineering standards, and good engineering practices. Coordinates the activities of the engineering design team. Performs field inspections as part of the construction quality assurance process. Interfaces with client. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities Assist with project schedules and assign work to team as needed. Assist with project budget and fees as needed. Deliver technical presentations to internal and external audiences as required as part of the design process. Provide mentoring to other staff members as directed. May be required to perform other duties as assigned. Design: Generates creative solutions; translates concepts and information into images; uses feedback to modify designs; applies design principles; demonstrates attention to detail. Code and Mathematical knowledge required: Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local building codes and safety laws. Work requires advanced math skills, special relationship abilities, and the ability to understand “abstract” principles behind math and physics. Computer skills required: Microsoft Windows environment, Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel; Google: Mail, Calendar, Drive, Apps; AutoCAD, Revit, 3D CAD, BIM system experience, Deltek Vision experience preferred Job Complexity Work requires substantial judgment and original thinking and creativity; Develops innovative approaches and ideas and must be able to present ideas and information in a manner that is clear to others. Supervisory Responsibilities This position will observe and advise other positions as needed. The incumbent should demonstrate project design leadership on a frequent basis. Working Environment and Conditions Contacts/Relationships The incumbent spends approximately 80% of his/her time developing and maintaining business contacts within the organization. He/she will also spend approximately 20% of his/her time developing and maintaining business contacts outside of the organization. Working Conditions This position occupies a general office environment. Occasional exposure to weather elements is likely during site visits. Incumbents will drive a vehicle in the course of performing their job responsibilities. Incumbents spend approximately 40% sitting, 30% standing, and 30% walking in the course of performing their job responsibilities and are unlikely to handle materials weighing more than 30 pounds without mechanical assistance. Incumbents will use the following office equipment in the course of performing their duties: phone, metering equipment, computer, copier, fax machine. Education (Required): Bachelors or better in Mechanical Engineering or a related field Experience (Preferred): 4-6 years related experience in plumbing design - especially in healthcare, higher education, and research facilities Licenses (Preferred): Professional Engineer, CPD or CPE |
