The Virginia Railway Express (VRE), a rapidly growing commuter rail operation connecting Washington, DC with Northern Virginia and surrounding counties, is in need of a Warehouse Specialist to work in VRE’s Warehouse located within the Crossroads Maintenance and Storage Facility in Fredericksburg, VA. This individual will be responsible for performing duties specific to receiving, shipping and other general supply chain functions for the organization.
Reports to the Manager of Warehouse and Inventory Control. Performs duties specific to receiving, shipping and other general supply chain functions for the organization.
SCOPE OF DUTIES
Responsible for the safe and secure movement of material into and out of the warehouse facility in accordance with the warehouse management plan.
Receives materials from suppliers, performs receiving inspections and distributes material to various bin locations as identified by the Inventory Management System
Analyzes inventory levels, production speed and product demand to determine reorder levels which will ensure product availability and minimize inventory costs.
Perform cycle counts and other required audits.
Supply material from the warehouse to the maintenance and storage facilities.
Initiates continuous improvement processes to ensure the warehouse and inventory control functions operate efficiently and effectively.
Process material requisitions.
Process non-complying material in accordance with company policy.
Ship material to suppliers for core return or warranty processing.
Enter information into the Inventory Management System as required.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Performs other related duties as necessary.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of general warehouse and inventory control principles, practices and procedures.
Extensive knowledge of inventory control functions, including cycle counts, audits, material resource planning, and shipping and receiving functions.
Knowledge of customer service principles.
Ability to interpret information from various forms and documents used for inventory control.
Strong verbal skills in order to interact with coworkers, supervisor, and the general public at a professional level sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Strong written communication skills, to include a good understanding of punctuation and proper grammar, to ensure that any contact with vendors remains at a professional level.
Ability to analyze data, organize and prioritize.
Reliance on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Ability to efficiently use a personal computer and related software applications, including automated financial systems.
Ability to remain calm during stressful events to make decisions in the best interest of the passenger, VRE, and the railroads.
Ability to work independently, efficiently, know limits and meet deadlines.
Ability to work well with all levels of staff, outside contractors, vendors, and customers.
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred with at least 4 years relevant experience in the field of warehouse and inventory control OR Associates Degree in a related field and a minimum of 5-7 years relevant experience in the field of warehouse and inventory control. Additional directly related experience can be substituted for the educational requirement.
Must possess a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance and maintain a good driving record at all times during employment with VRE.
Must be able to work flexible hours demanded by a transit operation environment.
Must be able to certify to operate a fork lift.
Physical Abilities: Ability to safely lift and move boxes, equipment and other items for short distances weighing up to 40 lbs. Physical ability to bend, walk and drive vehicles including cars, light trucks and utility trucks. Ability to effectively use hands and fingers in the manipulation of equipment, boxes and other items of a non-standard size.
