ITility is currently looking for a Principal Engineer to take ownership of the design and development of modular anaerobic digesters for our broad list of clients. As the Principal Engineer, you will occupy a unique role as we grow ITility's Renewable Energy team--allowing you to apply your ideas into actions as we develop our capabilities to address resource management challenges in urban and rural settings. In this role, you will have the creative freedom to draw from your experience to develop innovative technologies that promote sustainable and economical organic waste management and harness biomethane energy potential.

Responsible for providing critical technical input on the design, development, and manufacture of next-generation modular community-scale anaerobic digestion systems
Develop process designs for waste management/ AD treatment systems, including P&ID/PFDs, mass balances, and component specification
Help identify and lead the development of clean energy solutions (generation of power and/or fuel) with a specific focus on renewable energy, bioenergy, biogas, and waste-to-energy (e.g., food waste, agricultural waste, and/or other organic waste streams).
Lead and support internal and external projects and product development, to include managing small to mid-scale projects
Interface with customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to support ongoing project efforts
Take a leadership role on aspects of our bioenergy, biogas, and waste-to-energy technology innovation program. These include resource/feedstock assessment, product/project due diligence, feasibility studies, innovative technology evaluation/implementation, design, build, and operation.
Develop process designs for AD waste treatment systems, mass balances, and component specification.
Manage and provide a critical review of the project/product manufacturing, design, and operation of modular anaerobic digesters.
Optimize AD nutrient treatment/removal, biogas generation (Biomethane Potential), cleanup and compression, and integration with combined heat and power engine (CHP)
Help develop innovative coproducts derived from the AD, specifically digestate output used as fertilizer.
Interface with customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to support ongoing project efforts.
Mentor junior engineers in developing experience and skills that will help the organization grow.
BS degree in an engineering discipline, preferably civil, environmental, or agricultural
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the anaerobic digestion, biogas-renewable energy industry
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Familiarity with transfer stations, composting, waste collection, anaerobic digestion, waste processing and related technologies.
Proven experience in process design and system integration, and an understanding of the industrial manufacturing sector
Knowledge of waste management and treatment technologies, specifically anaerobic digestion (AD)
Project management experience and ability to work in a cross-functional team environment
Autodesk AutoCAD or equivalent experience
Desired Skills and Experience:
MS degree in an engineering or relevant discipline
15-20 years of experience in the waste management industry
Project Management Professional credentials
Knowledge of agronomy, soil science, and composting
Strong customer management capability with superior interpersonal and relationship management skills
Decision-making ability, with excellent planning and problem-solving skills
