After 10 years of service with the City, the current City Engineer will be retiring spring 2019. There is a healthy balance between projects designed in house and those that are outsourced to consultants. The Engineering department is comprised of one team member in each position of: City Engineer, Staff Engineer, Senior Engineering Technician and GIS Analyst. The City Engineer provides supervision and mentoring to each position. The City Engineer reports directly to the City Administrator, manages, directs, and supervises the City and Public Works engineering projects, leads the selection of consultants, and administers approved contracts. This position is responsible to develop and maintain the City’s design criteria, standard specifications, and standard drawings at a detailed level. The City Engineer is responsible for a department budget and forecasts revenue, expenses and additional funds needed for staffing, consultants, equipment, materials, and supplies. This position works jointly with other departments in the capital improvement program. The City Engineer works closely with Water, Streets, Wastewater and Planning and Zoning to provide support and guidance. This position will represent the Engineering Department and the City of Jerome at industrial, citizen, and city council meetings.
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering; five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional public works civil engineering that includes substantial experience in managing major public works capital improvement projects from design through construction; two (2) years of supervisory experience; current Idaho Professional Engineer license in Civil Engineering or have the ability to obtain an Idaho license within six month of hire; and a valid driver’s license.
