The East Bay Regional Park District is a system of beautiful parklands and trails in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. We are currently seeking an experienced and passionate individual to join us and become part of this great organization.
Under supervision, the mining technician is responsible for District mining related construction, operations and maintenance functions, primarily at Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve.
| Essential Functions: |
Performs the construction and maintenance involved in the mine operation, such as: constructs mine hazard abatement and resource development projects, including carpentry, concrete, minor electrical, plumbing, track, and ventilation work; operates mining equipment; monitors and inspects the work of contractors; inspects and repairs mine closures and maintained underground workings, including general cleanup, ground control work, air testing and dust control; operates and maintains ventilation, communication, electrical, plumbing, compressed air and transportation systems; maintains mining tools and equipment; performs tasks related to underground public use, such as regular Museum inspections; and maintains a working knowledge of applicable safety regulations, procedures and policies, and of emergency plans and equipment relating to underground operations.
Other Functions and Duties:
Acts as Museum and Visitor Center shifter, assists in the preparation and presentation of special events, and supervises the approved use of underground resources; performs tasks related to the mining interpretive program, such as, assists in the development of interpretive displays and programs and performs interpretive talks; may assist in emergency responses; performs administrative work, such as keeps logs and records, orders supplies, etc.; and performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of modern and 19th century ground control techniques, underground construction and maintenance of related systems (electrical wiring, ventilation techniques, communications systems, and air and gas testing instruments). Knowledge of the safety concerns relevant to underground operations. Ability to lift and/or move up to 60 lbs. Ability to direct and coordinate crews in scheduling, organizing and completing projects, including outside contractors. Ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels, including a culturally diverse general public, with a focus on quality service to internal staff and external customers and park users.Vacancy Situation:
