Under close supervision the Engineer I, performs pre-professional civil, mechanical, structural, or traffic engineering work in the field or office; assists in such projects as design, surveys, construction, research, review of construction documents for compliance to State and Local codes and regulation, and development of a wide variety of engineering projects.
A vacancy currently exists in the Department of Public Works which prefers a Civil or Traffic Engineering Degree; however, the eligible list created from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies in various departments. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of six (6) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligibility list may be limited to 3 months.
Incumbents in the Engineer I class may be promoted to the Engineer II class upon successful completion of the one year probationary period in the Engineer I class and recommendation of the appointing authority. The current salary range for Engineer II is $5,339 to $6,436 per month.
These are entrance requirements to the competitive examination and do not assure a place on the eligible list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil,
Mechanical, Structural, or Traffic Engineering, Architecture, Construction Technology, Industrial Technology or closely related field, or certification as either an Engineer-In-Training (EIT), or Phase I Architect by the State of California. A copy of the degree, transcripts, or certificate must be uploaded to the application for verification. Applications lacking verifying documents may be rejected.
Eligibles certified for consideration for this position will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint process prior to employment with the City of Fresno.
This position requires the possession of a valid driver's license. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.
THE SELECTION PROCESS
The examination process may consist of the following:
Written Examination 100%: The written examination is designed to assess a candidate's knowledge in the following areas: surveying, maps, construction materials and practices, terms and definitions, engineering, mathematical computations, Microsoft Office programs, interpersonal skills and safety. Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list.
The Written Exam has been tentatively scheduled for the week of APRIL 29, 2019.
Qualified veterans who pass the examination may obtain five (5) additional points. Candidates applying for veteran's preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period. Evidence must be presented to indicate that the candidate was discharged honorably from the military service. Veterans, including City employees, must resubmit proof of honorable service for every examination for which veteran's preference credit is requested.
