The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Street Maintenance Superintendent for our Public Services Department to supervise, assign and review the work of staff in the Streets Maintenance Division responsible for the maintenance and construction of City streets and alleys, and maintenance of storm drains; to oversee and manage all work activities; to recommend and assist in the implementation of goals, objectives, plans and budgets; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff responsible for streets construction and maintenance and storm drain installation.
Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; implement approved policies and procedures.
Establish schedules and methods for providing street maintenance services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
Supervise street construction and maintenance activities; oversee the installation and maintenance of streets including patching of pot holes; oversee curb and sidewalk projects; repair water main breaks as required.
Oversee sign installation and maintenance activities; supervise the stripping of streets; ensure accuracy and adherence to safety regulations.
Supervise the preparing of streets during seasonal weather conditions including salting and plowing streets and parking lots.
Supervise and participate in storm drain installation and maintenance activities.
Oversee the operation and maintenance of construction equipment including tractors, trucks, loaders, mowers, sweepers, and a variety of hand tools.
Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures; ensure training requirements are met; track accident trends for future preventative measures; keep abreast of new and current rules and regulations; approve the procurement of all personal protective equipment.
Participate in the preparation and administration of the Streets Division budget; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures.
Prepare analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.
Prepare specifications for material and equipment purchases.
Supervise the maintenance of time, material and equipment use records; requisition supplies and materials.
Respond to citizen complaints and inquiries; resolve issues in an appropriate manner; assist the public in issues relating to the Public Services Department.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible experience in streets construction and maintenance, or a related field, including two years administrative and supervisory responsibility.
Training: Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in construction management, business administration, public administration or a related field and/or specialized training in construction management.
LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS
Required: Possession of a valid Class B CDL and ability to maintain insurability.
Preferred: Construction related certificates, such as work zone safety, trenching & excavation, confined space entry, etc.; Commissioned by the State of North Carolina as a Notary Public; CPR certification; First Aid certification; FEMA training completion.
