The Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill & North Carolina State University invites applications for Professor of the Practice / Director of BME Design.
Position Summary: The Professor of the Practice will coordinate the development of the newly restructured undergraduate BME design curriculum while developing and delivering new material for the M.S. program. This position is expected to provide significant engineering design expertise from a prior career of distinguished industry (non-academic) achievement. In addition to coordinating design faculty and staff support, the Professor of the Practice will engage industry leaders and cultivate development and collaborative opportunities. This position will also serve as Director of the new M.S. degree which focuses on new product design, development and entrepreneurship. This individual must work productively and in a collaborative manner across all constituent BME entities, i.e. University of North Carolina College of Arts and Sciences, University of North Carolina School of Medicine and the NC State University College of Engineering.
Coordinate development of newly restructured undergraduate design curriculum
Develop course materials and deliver content in the M.S. program
Develop and implement a continuous quality improvement (CQI) plan for the BME Design Program
Oversee coordination of clinical immersion activities and BME Design Program events
Coordinate the efforts of faculty and staff participating in the BME Design Program
Engage industry leaders to verify the appropriateness and rigor of the BME Design Program
Participate in the ABET accreditation process
Develop collaborative opportunities with industry as well as faculty/staff across departments and universities
Assist the BME Development Director in fundraising activities
Provide direction for recruiting and admissions into the M.S. program
Minimum Education: PhD in Biomedical Engineering or related field
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with > 15 yrs of experience and leadership in the development and fielding of biomedical products and/or services
