JOB SUMMARY Senior Genomic Technologist performs DNA/RNA diagnostic testing, which involves the following: Sanger-based sequencing with the ability to perform wet-lab as well as dry-lab sequence data analysis; Fragment analysis using capillary electrophoresis [i.e. for Fragile X syndrome, MLPA etc]; Real-time PCR; and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), together with the interpretation of NGS data. Familiarity with the documentation required for test validations is highly desirable Senior Genomic Technologist is part of a team of clinical scientists and Medical technologists delivering high quality services in their specialty and has operational oversight of a team within the department. The Senior Genomic Technologist assists in the commissioning of equipment, and IT systems, together with the training of staff, and preparing policies and procedures in accordance with CAP-ISO15189 and JCI. Responsibilities also include the analysis and checking of complex results and the preparation of clinical reports, monitoring of quality indicators, and service development as appropriate. The Senior Genomic Technologist provides professional support in the area of specialty to the Supervisor – Pathology Genetics.

Achieving this vision will encompass three essential activities: Patient and Family Centered Care, Health Education and Biomedical Discovery The Department of Pathology is a professional service that provides a full range of diagnostic testing, and interpretation, and serves additional functions including academic training and teaching. The hospital -based laboratory provides diagnostic testing in Blood Sciences that includes Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion; Microbiology and Immunology that includes Molecular Pathology; Anatomical Pathology that includes Cytopathology and Histology; Pathology Genetics; together with Wireless Point of Care testing (POCT) and 24/7 Phlebotomy services. The Department of Pathology is CAP accredited and will be ISO 15189 and JCI accredited. The Department is supported by the Cerner Millennium PathNET LIS as part of an enterprise wide CIS and incorporates ward-based electronic testing, wireless and RFID technologies in POC and Phlebotomy, as well as digital pathology.
