The Village of Northbrook is seeking an individual for the position of Engineering Technician in the Public Works Department. Reporting to the Capital Projects Manager, this position will be responsible for responding to resident or business inquiries about private property and public rights-of-way drainage problems, and oversee and manage the Village’s 50/50 Private Property Drainage Improvement Program. The Engineering Technician also reviews reported complaints of code violations, writes tickets, and attends local adjudication hearings on behalf of the Public Works Department. The Engineering Technician will also manage or assist in the management of capital projects including but not limited to asphalt resurfacing, sidewalk replacement program, concrete street rehabilitation. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in construction methods for all infrastructure projects including documentation of quantities for the processing of project payments; have project management experience; be experienced in performing topographical surveys and understand site grading plans. Understanding of the design and construction of roadways, water main, and sanitary sewers, as well as experience with GIS (Geographic Information System) data management and collection is necessary. Other essential duties include surveying in the field; using electronic survey equipment to collect and edit GIS data; and assisting with the annual preparation of federal and state permit documents. The Engineering Technician will work indoors and outdoors throughout the year in all weather conditions and will be expected to work occasional nights and weekends as required. The Engineering Technician position is expected to communicate with various internal and external groups, as such candidates for this job will be expected to have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The Engineering Technician is required to balance a number of priorities, dates, and projects requiring both time management and organization skills. Lastly, the Engineering Technician will be required to understand project and program budgets to ensure their successful completion.

Qualified applicants must possess at least an Associates degree in Civil Engineering, or related engineering field, experience with AutoCad or Civil3D and 5 years construction or project management experience. Candidates must also possess good written and oral communication skills and have a valid Illinois drivers license. Starting salary range is expected to be $64,000 to $70,000.
