Provide strategic and tactical direction to operations in the Road & Bridge department by delegating and reviewing the management of work assignments, providing the services of a Registered Professional Engineer to the Commissioners' Court and the County, preparing and monitoring the appropriate budgets required. Ensure the training, evaluation and personal development of department employees, managing the development, implementation and oversight of engineering and related services. Monitoring department resources and budget and ensure compliance with policies, laws and duties as assigned.
Engineer must be registered by the State of Texas as a Professional Engineer. (Professional Engineers registered in another state, but not currently registered in the State of Texas, much (1) meet the registration requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act. (2) Obtain professional registration by the Texas State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers within six months of the date of hire; and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.)
Must have five (5) years progressively responsible experience as a professional engineer in such areas as design, construction techniques, knowledge or engineering principles related to county operations, safety standards and practices. Three years of administrative and supervisory management responsibility.
High level of comfort in dealing with various groups of people. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with elected officials, county, city, state and federal officials and the general public.
Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
