The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, jointly administered by the College of Engineering and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University, invites applications for the position of tenure-track assistant or tenured associate professor with research interests in forward-looking areas of data science and analytics in applications relevant to Iowa agriculture and/or industries, and teaching abilities relevant to core departmental courses. Exceptional candidates with commensurate experience and proven track record will be considered for the rank of associate professor. This is a 9-month position with potential for summer funding. The position is 45% research, 45% teaching, and 10% professional and institutional service.
Successful candidates will be expected to establish, sustain and grow a world-class research program that complements or aligns with the department’s focus areas (please see https://www.abe.iastate.edu/research/) through both independent and collaborative efforts. Additionally, the candidate is expected to establish a record of scholarship at the highest levels, teach highly engaging courses in the top-ranked undergraduate and graduate degree programs, and participate in institutional service as well as service to the profession. Minimum Required Qualifications:
Candidates must hold an earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree in engineering or a closely related field.
Associate Professor candidates must also meet the university standards for appointment to the rank including significant experience/accomplishments in the candidates' area of expertise.
Record of research excellence as evidenced by highly cited refereed journal and conference publications, intellectual property creation and entrepreneurship activities, and participation or leadership in funded research projects and other activities at the national or international level.
Evidence of collaboration or leadership in research and education.
Experience in data science and analytics applied to department focus areas of manufacturing, machine systems, animal production systems, land and water resources, biological processing, or occupational safety. Examples include computational agriculture, sensing and automation of agricultural systems, precision animal agriculture, data-driven watershed modeling, traceability and blockchain, bioinformatics, chemometrics, cyber-physical manufacturing or manufacturing 4.0, and predictive analytics and risk assessment related to injuries and loss.
Demonstrated potential for teaching courses that include two or more core undergraduate topics in Agricultural Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, Agricultural Systems Technology, and/or Industrial Technology.
