The Doctorate is based on the study of genetic diseases, with specific focus on hereditary, developmental disorders, renal, bone diseases as well as, solid and hematological cancers. Using new methods like the IPS generation, organoids, and gene editing, allow to study the pathogenesis in human cell and animal models of rare muscular, renal, neuro-developmental and neurodegenerative and bone diseases and to test possible gene therapies based on gene editing and tissue engineering.
Second selection notice for admission to the PhD courses of the University of Siena, 38th cycle, a.y. 2022-23 (see Rectoral Decree 2293/2022): For the PhD in Genetics, Oncology and Clinical Medicine 2 scholarships financed on projects financed by the European Union, NextGeneration UE, within the ambit of the National and Resilience Plan (PNRR) are included in the notice as specified in Annex 4 (see below). Deadline for application: 14:00 (Italian time), 11 November 2022. The course activities of this positions will begin on 1 January 2023.
There are 4 positions now for those aiming to test in cellular and animal models and to translate into clinical practice advanced medicinal products including gene therapy (gene editing) for rare diseases (CNS, renal, muscle such as glycogenosis type 2)and oncological diseases as well as tissue engineering for bone disorders.
