The Traffic Operations Engineer is responsible to perform professional engineering work in the investigation, planning, design, construction, and maintenance and operations of a variety of traffic engineering projects; to supervise the electrical and traffic functions.
This the journey registered level in the professional engineering series. This class is distinguished from Associate Engineer by the requirement for possession of registration as a professional engineer within the State of California and the ability to independently review, approve and stamp plans. It is distinguished from Associate Civil/Traffic Engineer by the responsibility for supervision of the staff engaged in the installation, repair, and maintenance of traffic markings, traffic signals and citywide electrical work.
This class is distinguished from Senior Civil Engineer and Senior Traffic Engineer in that the latter are advanced journey classes responsible for managing complex and difficult engineering projects and programs and/or exercising direct supervision over professional and registered staff.

Four years of professional experience in traffic operations, design or transportation engineering to include a minimum of two years of experience equivalent to an Associate Engineer.
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering, traffic engineering, or a related field.
License or Certificate:
Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a professional civil or traffic engineer in the State of California, or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire.
